How To Clean Stainless Steel Cutlery With Baking Soda
Stains frequently appear on cutlery. Hot grease may leave a stubborn, rainbow-coloured mark, and mineral salts in tap water can cause a white film if the cutlery is not dried thoroughly. Acidic foods such as vinegar may also cause staining, while the humid atmosphere inside a dishwasher may pit the surface of stainless steel and cause marks.
If your cutlery is stained, just follow this advice to get it gleaming again...
General directions
A proprietary stainless-steel cleaner will remove most marks, or rub with a cloth soaked in vinegar or lemon juice, then rinse thoroughly.

Knives
Stainless-steel knives are more prone to corroding than stainless-steel forks or spoons. This is because in order to achieve a lasting, sharp edge, the steel used in the knife blade must be much harder than that used for other cutlery. This results in it having reduced resistance to corroding.
To keep your chopping knives in tip-top condition, don't leave them immersed in water for long periods and always hand wash, then dry them thoroughly with a tea towel.
Tea-stained teaspoons
Soak overnight in a cupful of water mixed with biological washing detergent. Rinse and wash thoroughly after soaking.
GHI TIP: Never use the rinse and hold cycle on the dishwasher for cutlery, and always remove stainless-steel cutlery as soon as the normal dishwashing cycle has ended.
